No surprise there: Zionism is itself a colonialist project: a spawn of Europe's guilt over its own anti-Semitism and a by-product of European-German relations even prior to WWII. But I digress. Zionism as a political ideology calls for a Jewish state over all of historic Palestine as was stated in Herzl's original theses on the matter. It has manifested itself in almost all facets of Israeli-Arab relations: the wars of '48, '56, '67, the Lebanese Civil War, the Intifadas, and the recent wars in - sorry, on Lebanon and Gaza. Whatever it is, the Israeli government seeks to make life undesirable for those inhabitants and seeks their expulsion in one form or another to make way for expansion.

Also interesting to note is that the Israeli government has not to date let down on its settlement projects. The Gaza "disengagement" farce was made to detract us from the increasing settlement expansion in the West Bank.
